Multiculturalism, Education, and Community: The Festival of Languages and Cultures at UVVG

06.02.2026

The West University “Vasile Goldiș” of Arad (UVVG) hosted for the first time the Festival of Languages and Cultures, an event reflecting the institution’s international openness as well as its commitment to intercultural dialogue. The event brought together students, faculty members, and guests from both academic and community environments in the Cicio Pop Hall within the UVVG Rectorate.

The festival was opened by UVVG Vice-Rector, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cristian Bente, who conveyed the message of the Rector, Prof. Dr. Habil. Coralia Adina Cotoraci, the macro-level initiator of this concept strategically developed within the university. In his message, Vice-Rector Cristian Bente emphasized that UVVG represents a remarkable hub of multiculturalism, both academically and across the wider university life.

In this context, it was highlighted that approximately 25% of UVVG’s students come from over 60 countries worldwide, with the university hosting more than a thousand international students who study and live in Arad. This reality is supported and reinforced through the activities of UVVG’s Department of International Relations, Mobility, and Global Image, which annually develops numerous academic partnerships with higher education institutions around the world, contributing to the university’s international visibility and to the diversification of the educational experiences offered.

Additionally, through the Erasmus+ program, a significant number of students and faculty members benefit from study and teaching mobility at partner institutions abroad, in the fields in which they study or teach.

The presence of international students brings direct benefits to the local community, including economic impacts on the rental market, daily consumption, and the social dynamics generated by their presence and, periodically, that of their families in the city.

“This festival is a gesture of learning about the traditions and culture of one’s peers and neighbors, and ultimately, a gesture of acceptance and respect,” concluded Vice-Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cristian Bente, emphasizing the role of university education in forming an open and responsible society.

The event was organized by UVVG’s Faculty of Socio-Human Sciences, Physical Education, and Sports, with active involvement from students and pupils from several educational institutions in Arad. Artistic ensembles also performed special moments, each managing to authentically express the cultural particularities and traditions of their regions. Moreover, university staff conducted linguistic games aimed at developing knowledge and creating a dynamic and friendly atmosphere among attendees.

The event also benefited from the support of the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) and the Fulbright Commission, through their representatives at UVVG, as well as from the presence of the university’s partners from pre-university education, thus strengthening the connection between university education, pre-university education, and international academic networks.

The Festival of Languages and Cultures represented an exercise in learning, acceptance, respect, and development, reflecting UVVG’s long-term vision, conceived and supported by the Rector, Prof. Dr. Habil. Coralia Adina Cotoraci. Through education, internationalization, and intercultural dialogue, a solid community is gradually built, based on vision, perseverance, dedication, and professionalism.
