International Day of Forests Marked at UVVG Arad Through a Workshop Dedicated to the Circular Economy
Arad once again joined initiatives dedicated to the International Day of Forests this year through a workshop organized on the campus of the “Vasile Goldiș” Western University of Arad. The event was initiated by the Faculty of Economic Sciences, Informatics and Engineering, within the Forestry study program.
The theme “Forests as Strategic Heritage and the Circular Economy” highlighted the essential role of forests in the current context, marked by economic pressures and climate change, as well as the need for sustainable and innovative solutions in forest resource management.
The event opened with a message from the university’s rector, Prof. Dr. Habil. Coralia Adina Cotoraci, delivered by the vice-rector of UVVG, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Andrei Anghelina, who emphasized the importance of training specialists in the field of forestry and strengthening the connection between academia and the forestry sector.
The event was attended by undergraduate and master’s students, along with representatives of the Arad Forestry Directorate, the Bihor Forest Guard, as well as public and private forest districts, creating a framework for dialogue between education, research, and practice.
The workshop included a series of presentations delivered by specialists in the field, addressing current and applied topics: from digital solutions for timber traceability and the use of GIS technologies in forest stand inventory, to the management of defoliating insects, monitoring of game species, and the challenges related to unwanted succession in forests in western Romania.
The concept of the circular economy in forestry was also analyzed from a logistical perspective, highlighting opportunities for the efficient and responsible use of forest resources.
Through its scientific content and the diversity of participants, the event held at UVVG Arad demonstrated the importance of collaboration between academic institutions and specialized organizations, contributing to the promotion of modern and sustainable practices in the forestry sector.
